Vrabel Likely Culpable in Indiana Beer Bust

According to multiple media reports, Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Mike Vrabel was arrested Monday morning at a casino in Florence, Indiana, for allegedly attempting to steal eight bottles of beer – an allegation that appears to have merit.

Vrabel addressed the incident in statements made to ProFootballTalk.com. "It was an unfortunate misunderstanding,” he said, “and I take full responsibility for the miscommunication." We at Sports Intelligence Analysts believe that Vrabel’s brief comments offer some insight into his potential culpability in the matter.

First, his failure to offer a substantive denial, such as “I didn’t take the beer” or “I never stole any alcohol,” strongly suggests Vrabel took something that did not belong to him.

Vrabel’s comment potentially sends a very interesting unintended message. His reference to the situation being “unfortunate,” and his remark that he takes “full responsibility,” are interesting choices of words that likely reflect his acknowledgement of guilt.

What is perhaps most galling about the incident is that it occurred at a time when Vrabel, acting as an NFL Players Association representative, is negotiating with the league on how they should divvy up $9 billion in revenue. Seems you could buy a brewery for that kind of money.
